After photographing so many beautiful flowers, I started shooting the "weeds". We work a ranch so knowing what is bad for cattle is a good idea. One species may be poisonous and a similar one good food. But even in the weediest of weeds, I found great beauty.

Asteraceae (Compositae) - Sunflower family
Cocklebur (Common Burdock) Xanthium strumarium
This weed will grow even in the middle of a drought and can reach 6 feet tall. Flower is very small in 1/4" wide balls. Seedpod is about 1" long covered in barbs.

Asteraceae (Compositae) - Sunflower family
Bighead Pygmycudweed (Big Head Rabbit Tobbaco) Evax prolifera
Succulent plant grows 4-6" tall. Heads areabout 1/2" wide with tiny yellow flowers. Green with lots of water. Fuzzy white hairs cover the plant as it dries out to gray.

Spring Pygmycudweed Evax verna
Succulent plant grows 4-6" tall. Heads areabout 1/2" wide covered in white fuzz. Green with lots of water.

Loranthaceae - Mistletoe family
American Mistletoe Phoradendron flavescens
Succulent parasite grows into the branches of trees eventually killing the branch and then the tree. Translucent white berries are about 1/4" wide.
