Catclaw Mimosa Mimosa biuncifera (Mimosa aculeaticarpa var. biuncifera)

Pink puff ball flower is about 1/2" wide and quickly turns white with age.  Compound leaves are only 1/2"-1 1/2" long and close when touched.  Flat curved beans are 1"-2" long some have spines on them.  Shrub can look like a vine or 8 foot tall bush.  Mature thorns are about 1/4" long with a slight curve at the tip.  This plant will "reach out and grab you", but the thorns do not readily come off the plant.  Good for erosion control.  It is browsed by dear and livestock in dry times.  Flowers are good for honey and seeds are eaten by quail.

Fragrant Mimosa Mimosa borealis

Small thorns are far apart.  Flower balls about 1/2" wide.  Compound leaves are about 1/2" long.  Pods are about 2" long with several on a stalk with 2-7 well defined beans.  Shrub is rather sprawling usually about 3 feet tall but can grow to 6 feet tall.
