Welcome to Catnapin's

Indian Paintbrush
Scrophulariaceae - Figwort family
Most flowers found on highways have been seeded. The most common mixes include C. indivisa (scarlet, pink, white), C. integra (orange), C. purpurea var citrina (yellow). Flower spikes 6-12" tall but what you see are the colorful bracts, the small flowers are inside. These are parasitic plants that must have a host for their supply of nitrogen and other nutrients. The host is often the grass that grows around it.
