Copper Mallow (Narrowleaf Globe Mallow) Sphaeralcea angustifolia
Flower 3/8"-3/4" wide, orange-coral color with lime green center. Plant shown is about 4 feet tall. Long gray-green leaves, 1 1/2"-3" long, and folded. Flowers come in a variety of colors from orange to red, pink to lavender.

Spear Globemallow (Spreading Globemallow, Wrinkled Globemallow) Sphaeralcea hastulata (Sphaeralcea subhastulata)
Bright orange flower 3/4"-1" wide. These sprawling plant stems grow 8"-16" long with one to several flowers blooming along each stem. The folded, crinkled leaves have two small lobes at base, 1"-2" long. They last until the first dry warm spell then disappear.

Scrufymallow Malvella lepidota
Flowers auxiliary, pink, white, to pale brownish yellow, rose upon drying. Gray-green heart shaped leaves have crinkled edges.

Scarlet Globemallow Sphaeralcea coccinea
Not a tall plant. Stems decumbent to ascending, 12"-21" long. Prolific orange flowers 3/4"-1 1/2" wide. Sepals with conspicuous long hairs. Blooms in spring only. Leaves deeply lobed multiple times, nearly linear. Grows in sandy or gravelly open ground, roadsides.

Point-seed Globemallow Sphaeralcea cuspidata
Blood red flowers, about 1" wide. Gray-green leaves are narrow, toothed, and heart shaped, 1"-2" long. Plant can get to 3 feet tall. Grows in rocky sandy soils of Edwards Plateau.

Palmleaf Globemallow Sphaeralcea pedatifida
Orange to pink flowers. Deeply lobed leaves, 1/2"-1" long and equally wide. Mid-lobe of leaf 2 times the length of lateral lobes. Reclined plant with stems reaching 2 feet long. Grows in rocky sandy soils of Edwards Plateau and South Texas Plains.

Pale yellow flower about 1/2" wide unfurls from a five sided, gusseted globe. Plants grow to about 10" tall.

Spreading Fanpetals (Spreading Sida) Sida abutifolia (S. filicaulis, S. procumbens)
Pale yellow flower about 1/2" wide with wide notch on petal edge. It unfurls from an orange pentagon. Sprawling plant with stems to about 18" long. Leaves are thick and have fine hair. Occasionally eaten by deer and cattle.

Texas Indian Mallow Abutilon fruticosa
Flower about 1" wide can be yellow, orange, or red. Stamens unite to form a column. Hairy leaves 1"-4" long with serrated edges. Upper leaves are smaller. Plant grows 1-6 feet tall in limy soil. The fibers of the stems have been used to make rope. Plant is decimated by overgrazing.
