Asteraceae (Compositae) - Sunflower family
Horseweed (Mare's Tail) Conyza candensis
Yellow/white flowers are about 3/8" wide and turn brown quickly. The seed head looks like a brown flower. Long, toothed leaves reach 4" long. Plant can reach 4-6 feet tall. This fast growing plant has a tap root.

White Sagebrush (Native Wormwood) Artemisia ludoviciana
Upright plant about 16" tall. Entire plant is covered in dense white hair. Leaves about 1"-2" long and thick. Flower about 1/2" long in a loose spike. Flowers should be yellow, cold damp day.

Similar Species
Field Sagewort (Wormwood) Artemisia campestris
Plant has one main stem with branched flower stems at top. Green leaves have many segments, all are very narrow. Flowers hang like bells a its vertical branch.

Gray bush with a single main stem. At the top, the single flower spike branches for the flowers. Very narrow, long leaves, most have 3 segments except on the flower spike.
