Geraniaceae - Geranium family

Pin-clover (Redstem Filaree) Erodium cicutarium

Bright pink flower 1/4"-1/2 wide. Leaf stalks 4"-6" long and 1" wide. Reclined plant grows from a central rosette then adds branches to become sprawling. Leaves can be tightly bunched together or loose like a fern. This plant tolerates drought conditions.

Mountain Pink Centaurium beyrichii

Flower about 5/8" wide. Very thin leaves. Bush shown is about 8" wide.

Rubiaceae - Madder or Coffee family

Fine-leaf Bluets (Prairie Bluets) Hedyotis nigricans

Each flower about 1/4" wide in varying sized clusters.; Plant grows to about 12" tall.; The species name refers to the blackening of the leaves as they dry. I have read that the pink color is common and the white is rare, but in Taylor Co. white is dominant.

Polemoniaceae - Phlox family

Standing Cypress (Flame Flower, Indian Plume, Texas Star) Ipomopsis rubra

Individual flower about 1" long with speckled insides. Spike shown is 2-3 feet tall. Leaves are very divided to look like thin blades.

Scrophulariaceae - Figwort family

Havard Penstemon Penstemon havardii

Flowers  3/4"-1 1/8" long grow in clusters up the pinkish stem and appear to be coated in glistening sugar. Thick, smooth, slightly rounded leaves are 2"-3" long and grow at base. Plant spike grows 3-6 feet tall.
